Virtual TimeClock 5 is a major upgrade to
Redcort Software's award winning Time & Attendance
software. The following article discusses Redcort's upgrade policies as well as information
on how to install Virtual TimeClock 5 upgrades and updates.
Upgrade Policy
Upgrading
The new client-server
licensing and Software Maintenance & Support program announced in December 2004 brings
some very positive changes to our software licensing and upgrades. The new software maintenance
program facilitates new feature upgrades and updates on a more incremental six month engineering
cycle (as opposed to the prior 18-24 month cycle). Our customers benefit from new technologies
implemented more rapidly at a reduced overall price when compared to our prior major upgrade
release every 18-24 months.
Because of the different
licensing options and support now available, Redcort Software is offering a generous
upgrade allowance to help our loyal base of Virtual TimeClock users migrate to our new
version 5 release. All registered Virtual TimeClock 2-4 users are eligible to receive
a 50%
upgrade credit towards any combination of new Virtual TimeClock Pro 5 licenses. This
is a one time upgrade offer that ends June 30, 2005.
Free Minor
Updates
Licensed users of Virtual
TimeClock 5 are provided free access (via our web site or CD-ROM purchase) to all minor
software updates released for their registered version of Virtual TimeClock. Minor updates
are indicated by an increment of the third digit of the release. For example, any Virtual
TimeClock 5.0 license will register and run any release of Virtual TimeClock Professional
5.0.0-5.0.9.
Major Program
Updates and Upgrades
All Virtual TimeClock
purchasers are encouraged to enroll in the Software
Maintenance & Support program. While enrolled in the program, customers receive
ongoing technical support and free upgrades to ALL Virtual TimeClock Professional updates
and releases for their licensed software.
Virtual TimeClock 5 customers
who decline enrollment in the Software Maintenance & Support program are eligible
to receive a 30% discount towards the purchase of any Virtual TimeClock 5 upgrade release.
Upgrading From Virtual TimeClock 2, 3 or 4
Virtual TimeClock version
5 can import data from any prior release of our Virtual TimeClock software. While some
planning for the new release is required, the actual process for upgrading is very straight
forward.

Updating Version
5
Virtual TimeClock 5 employs
a new data management system that maintains the user data, licensing and preferences
completely separate from the Virtual TimeClock program files. Updating from one version
of Virtual TimeClock 5 to a new release (e.g. 5.0 to 5.1) is as simple as replacing the
Virtual TimeClock application folder.
The following sections explain
how to perform a version 5 update on both Windows and Macintosh computers:
Macintosh
Updates
Mac programs are normally stored in the Applications folder at the root level or
the computer hard drive. To install a Virtual TimeClock 5 update on a Macintosh computer,
replace the prior version of Virtual TimeClock 5 in the Applications folder with the current
Virtual TimeClock program folder.
Any alias icons that were
created to the program on the desktop or in the startup items folder will need to be
recreated for the new Virtual TimeClock Pro application.
Windows
Updates
Select Uninstall from the Virtual TimeClock 5 folder in the Programs folder in
the Start menu. Uninstalling DOES NOT remove your data, preferences or licenses. After
uninstalling the
prior version of Virtual TimeClock, run the new TimeClockSetup.exe application to install the
latest Virtual TimeClock release.
