Upgrading
From Version 1 or 2 |
Virtual TimeClock 5 can import and use data from any prior release of our Virtual TimeClock
software. The following sections explain the process for upgrading from Virtual TimeClock
Standard Edition Version 1 or 2:
1. Export your Virtual TimeClock Standard Data.
-
Launch your old Virtual TimeClock Standard Edition software.
-
Select 'Export All' from the File menu and follow the exporting instructions.
Note:
If you're using a version older than Virtual TimeClock 2.42, we have created 'Timecard Exporter
Utility' to easily export Time Card data out of any previous version of Virtual TimeClock .The
Timecard Exporter Utility is on the Virtual TimeClock
CD-ROM or available as a free
download. Follow the Timecard Exporter Utility directions that come with the program.
2. Download the latest Virtual TimeClock release here.
Contact Redcort Software to obtain a CD-ROM
with the latest Virtual TimeClock release. Install the Virtual TimeClock 5 application
on the computer that will function as your stand alone or server time clock.
-
On Macintosh computers, drag and drop the Virtual TimeClock folder into the Applications
folder.
-
On Microsoft Windows based computers, run the TimeClockSetup.exe installer.
3. Launch Virtual TimeClock 5 and select 'New Data File' from the File menu. The
Setup Assistant will walk you through the creation of a new, empty Virtual TimeClock 5
data file.
4. After creating a new data file, select Import from the Virtual TimeClock 5 File
menu.
5. Select 'Virtual TimeClock Standard Import' from the popup menu in the import
dialog.
6. Press the Import button and navigate to the export file created in step 1. Virtual
TimeClock 5 will import your version 2 export file into your new version 5 data file.
-
Importing should always be done with all files on the local computer. Never import
data over a network connection.
-
Due to encryption security in Virtual TimeClock Standard, worker passwords need to
be recreated manually after being imported into Virtual TimeClock 5. See the 'Users'
chapter in the 'TimeClock Setup' section in the User's Guide for information on creating
user passwords.
If you want to install Virtual TimeClock on client computer(s) that will connect to your
Virtual TimeClock server:
7. Install Virtual TimeClock 5 on each client computer and launch the program.
8. Select 'Connect To Server' from the file menu. Your server will be automatically
discovered and appear in the dialog. Press the Connect button to connect the client TimeClock
to the Virtual TimeClock server.
