Virtual TimeClock 5 can import and use data from any prior release of our Virtual TimeClock
software. The following sections explain the process for upgrading from Virtual TimeClock
Pro 3:
1. Download the latest Virtual TimeClock release here.
Contact Redcort Software to obtain a CD-ROM
with the latest Virtual TimeClock release. Install the Virtual TimeClock 5 application
on the computer that will function as your stand alone or server time clock.
-
On Macintosh computers, drag and drop the Virtual TimeClock folder into the Applications
folder.
-
On Microsoft Windows based computers, run the TimeClockSetup.exe installer.
2. Launch Virtual TimeClock 5 and select 'Open Data File' from the file menu.
3. In the 'Open Data File' dialog, select the Import button and navigate to your
Virtual TimeClock 3 data file.
-
The name and path to your current Virtual TimeClock 3 data is essential to a successful
data import. To determine the current data file name and location, select 'System Settings'
from the Administration menu in Virtual TimeClock 3.
-
While the import process is designed to be harmless to the original files, you should
always work with a copy of your prior Virtual TimeClock data files.
-
The conversion process from version 3 is very significant and can be time consuming.
A version 3 data file with several years of data and dozens of workers can take 10-45
minutes to convert. Do not convert version 3 data over a network. Use your fastest
available computer to convert large data files.
-
Importing should always be done with all files on the local computer. Never import
data over a network connection.
-
If you experience problems converting your data, contact Redcort
Software for assistance in converting your data files.
4. After import, the converted data file appears as a company listing in the Open
Data File dialog. Make sure the data file is selected and the appropriate TimeClock Mode
(Server or Stand Alone) is chosen. Press the 'Open' button' to open the data file.
If you want to install Virtual TimeClock on client computer(s) that will connect to your
Virtual TimeClock server:
5. Install Virtual TimeClock 5 on each client computer and launch the program.
6. Select 'Connect To Server' from the file menu. Your server will be automatically
discovered and appear in the dialog. Press the Connect button to connect the client TimeClock
to the Virtual TimeClock server. |
