George Washington's Birthday honors the life and contributions of the first president of the United States. Increasingly, the holiday has become an occasion to celebrate the birthdays of both President George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln, so the holiday is often referred to as Presidents' Day.

Because George Washington's Birthday is a federal holiday, most federal buildings, schools, and banks will be closed. Many retail and private sector businesses remain open on the holiday.
